On behalf of the National Organising Committee (Uganda) and the International Organising Committee/Scientific Programme Committee, we take this opportunity to invite you to the Fifth International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS-V) to take place from 13th 15th October 2010 in Kampala, Uganda. This venue was selected during the ICAS-IV conference in Beijing, China.
The ICAS-V conference is open to all producers, suppliers, trainers and users of Agricultural Statistics, such as economists, statisticians, researchers, analysts and decision-makers from government entities, the academia, , development partners and international organisations. It is as well open to the private sector, including the business community. More details and updates regarding the conference can be found at the Conference website www.icas-v.org . A copy of the ICAS-V detailed programme and brochure can also be downloaded from the website. We request for your support and assistance in distributing the brochure and in publicising the information therein as widely as possible.
The Conference will focus on the UN report titled Global Strategy for Improving Agriculture Statistics under the theme Integrating Agricultural Statistics into National Statistical Systems. About Uganda.
The Republic of Uganda (pronounced /juːˈɡændə/ yoo-GAN-də or /juːˈɡɑːndə/ yoo-GAHN-də) is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered on the east by Kenya, on the north by Sudan, on the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the southwest by Rwanda, and on the south by Tanzania. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, which is also bordered by Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda takes its name from the Buganda kingdom, which encompassed a portion of the south of the country including the capital Kampala.

• Area of Uganda is about 241,550.7 sq. km.
• Land area is 199,807.4 sq. km.
• Open water and swamps cover about 41,743.2 sq. km.
Population statistics
- According to the 2002 census:
o 2002 Population was 24.2 million persons.
o Annual Population growth rate between 1991 and 2002 censuses was 3.2 percent.
o 2002 population density was 123 persons /Sq.Km.
o 49 percent of the population was below 15 years.
o The overall life expectancy was 50.4 years in 2002.
• Total population (2009 mid year projected) is 30.7 million persons.
• Total Fertility Rate (UDHS 2006) was 6.7 Births per woman.
• Infant Mortality Rate (UDHS 2006) was 75 Per 1,000 Live births.
